Inquiry Based Learning Assignment #3 - Comments
Mahi- Sewing a Top
1. I really like how she went through step by step her process, I thought the Pattern Maker was an interesting tool for sewing. I can not sew and I would try the Pattern Maker if I ever get brave enough to try to sew.
2. Did a great job on sewing a shirt from scratch, but a visual of work great for us visual learners, step by step quick lesson.
Wendy- Chocolate Souffles
1. I really liked the analysis that Wendy did on the three recipes that she chose and how she gave them a break down by rating them and trying them out, the cost break down was a great way to help one chose which is most cost efficient for the baker.
2. I love to bake and I would like to try out the Unknown Baker recipe as it looked delicious, it was cost friendly and simple directions.
Amanda- Makes Biscuits
1. I enjoyed how she presented, she was very clear during her presentation.
2. I plan to try her active experimentation with cake & pastry flour as I don't always have regular flour at home and I do have cake flour, I make biscuits when I make stew so now I know if I don't have regular flour I can use my cake flour.
3. Would you try out other flours to see if they work also? A short video would of been a great way to teach the steps on how to make biscuits, could be a wonderful teaching tool for visual learners.
Jeri-Lynn- Photography
1. Very well informed about the camera and all the techniques, I would like to learn photography in my spare time. She gave a lot of information about the settings and what works and what does not work. Really enjoyed this presentation.
2. I am a hands-on-learner so this presentation was a little bit much for me to take in all at once, but the way Jeri-Lynn presented it makes me want to get my hands on a camera and take a few lessons myself, I love taking pictures of old barns and just imagine how much nicer they would look if I learned what Jeri-Lynn learned about using the different settings on the camera.
Melinda and Kelly- Perogies
1. Great presentation, clearly stated directions and pictures. Great directions on how to make perogies, I have tried once to make perogies and they are time consuming. I still buy my perogies over trying to make them.
Love the inclusion comment for ECE's!!! As an ECE myself I loved baking with my children when I worked front line and now I stress the inclusion when teaching my students about activities in daycare. I so agree that we need to teach what our students they are going to use in the workforce, giving choices is the best way to learn.
Would of liked to see a video on the process of perogie making, would of made a great teaching tool.
Sajjad- Microsoft Access
1. Again I am a hands on learner so this presentation was a bit over my head, very informative and Sajjad learned how to work the program which was the idea behind the assignment. I don't think I would be trying to learn this program just yet, but great presentation, he seemed very comfortable in his learning process.
For myself I could not keep up with the presentation as I am a hands on learner when it comes to computer applications, I need lots of time and one step at a time, I have a hard time following directions that are given quickly, I am one who needs practice, practice, practice to master computer applications such as Sajjad had presented. His presentation was good but would of been great to have a real demonstration.
Cara-Powerpoint
Great power point, wonderful pictures and set up. I feel the same way, I am not a computer person also but you have demonstrated that if you just try and don't get discouraged you can do it. I have never created a power point either, my first attempt will be for my assignment also. I will keep your comment of save, save all work!!!
Hussam- Smart phone
1.Good presentation, he had a lot of patience with learning about his phone. Great visual presentation, but what about people with I phones?
2. Again I am a hands on learner/visual, would of loved to see the pictures more clearly, and learned some features for the Iphone.
Darcy-Webpage

2. I wish there was more information on each website, give us a comparison of each site used.
Jenna S-Button Baby Booties
1.Great job on completing the booties, it looks like a challenge. Good that you kept on going and recognized that you have to keep on going in order to learn. Great comments on how to learn and not just give up.
2. Not to many slides, would like to see a picture of you doing the booties half way mark, maybe showing how you sewed on the buttons.
Jenna B- Income Tax
1.Great comparison about taxes online and manual. Great information on taxes and the what you should know when filing taxes.
2.This presentation scared me not to want to do my own taxes, no offence but it seems hard and I am not confident after listening to this presentation but I applaud your learning.

2.Would of loved to see a short demonstration video.
Leonard- 2 presentations
1. Great presentation, like the fact that you are willing to keep on trying on project number one, you chose a difficult task to learn and gave it effort.
2. The second task was simple to learn and not sure the learning will continue after you have accomplished it.
Learner Center Approaches Presentations
Hussam
1.Great point about how students look at some courses as being a waste of their time, that they are not learning anything. This is true, students often have that feeling of why are we studying this? And then they lose interest and focus. The flipped classroom for your first outcome is great to keep the students on task, they will have more time to ask questions and focus on the outcome.
2.No approaches listed.
Wendy
1. Great presentation, you really chose the best learning approaches for your students. great visual-video
2.Great learning outcomes listed.
Cynthia
1. Great presentation, I can relate to the courses you chose, and group work is best because of the team work involved in daycare and this is a great way to encourage that team work early.
2. A lot of information on the slides, hard to read them off the computer.
Jeri-Lynn
1.Good learning outcomes, the use of the Lucid chart is a great tool for the students in your course, it's a great visual tool and they can keep it in their computer files.
2.The journal wiki is a great idea to share with others on the liver, but what if students don't want to share their work- their pictures of the liver? Some students don't like to be critique by others on their work, if it's left at positive feedback or helpful feedback then this would be a great learning tool.
Sajjad
1. great questions for students learning. Lots of information to take in and learn.
2.I like that you chose the learning center approach for one of your outcomes, this one is a great way for the students to work together and do the all the steps to figure out the problems with the plant, then how to come up with the best solution.
Darcy
1.Great presentation, you made great points even though you don't teach yet. you provided great information on apps. Love the quote!
2. Missing learning outcomes.
Jenna S
1. I loved this prezi presentation. Great presentation that was clear and easy to follow along. Your Prezi was well put together and the learning outcomes where good and clear.
2.The student learner approaches were well matched to the outcomes.
Kelly
1. The learning outcome was written with the student will learn, the outcome is to start with a verb. I did the same thing so I noticed this right away.
2.The role play learner approach is a great tool in the course in Partnerships, that is a great way for students to learn how to deal with situations that do arise with parents and even co-workers. Like the evaluation piece that goes with the role playing.
Amanda
1. I was confused by the presentation at first, I understood the learner's approaches which you stated and why you used them which is great but I have to admit I was lost at the beginning of the presentation as I did not catch the learning outcomes.
2. I like how you recognize that what is not working in the courses you are teaching and how you can make them more appealing to students to want to learn. Nice little video at the end to catch students attention and give a little motivation.
Jenna B
1.Great learning outcomes listed with a good choice of learners approaches to match the outcomes, nice pictures included in the Prezi.
2.The presentation was clear and easy to follow along, great explanation to how students will learn and how they will apply each learning approach to the their practical experience.
Shauna
1.Great listing of learner's approaches and tools you would use for each, liked the benefits listed that the students would get from the learning.
2.Great details in the presentation, very clear explanations were given for the students learning, what they will get from learning and I like the idea to using a webquest prior to just jumping into starting their own business.
Cara
1.Mapping is great tool for students to really map out what they need to list for this project-assignment.
2.For the floor plan-is it to be drawn out using the lucid chart or is it just a written floor plan for the webquest? I do like the idea of the webquest for all the students information they are learning and putting together as an assignment. They could go back to their webquest or to another's webquest to see other's ideas at the end of the learning. Great idea for a project.
Melinda
1. Role play is a great tool for Positive Child Guidance courses, I like that you chose that tool for this course as it's a great way for students to learn different ways to deal with challenging behaviors and get that hands on learning experience. You can provide scenarios and they act them out.
2. For the second outcome would a journal work better then creating a webquest? I ask as a journal they can place all the links in a journal for future reference. A webquest is a great tool also but there is alot of resources and information out there for the ECE profession across Canada.
Leonard
1. I like the idea of using the discovery approach and having three assignment questions for them to chose from. I agree with your statement that giving students choices is a large part of student learning.
2. Great presentation, the problem based learning is a great tool for the students to figure out how to come out with the solution and having to work the problem out for this particular outcome. And great way to have students brainstorm and work together to solve the problem, and share their findings.
Assignment #6 Classroom Management Social and Emotional Factors
1. The problem I most commonly have in my classroom of adult ECE students is more an emotional factor then a social factor. All 8 of my students are adult women who on a social level have no issues with one another, they interact both in class and outside the classroom on a personal level and even help each other out with assignments. I find it is the emotional factor that plays a huge role in my classroom. I have encountered many different emotional factors ranging from low self-esteem, family issues in which a student is affected emotionally-stressed, sad and can't concentrate in class so they miss class, to students not engaging in class discussions due to feeling anxious or uncomfortable answering or asking questions.
My solution: The first thing I do when I enter class or my students enter class is to make sure they feel welcomed each day, I always greet my students at arrival and departures at the end of the day. I encourage positive relationships with each and every student by taking the time to hear them out, with emotional factors I will have students call me in class to let me know they are not in class due to what ever reason, all I can do is encourage them to come for the next class if they can and if not to call me in my office if they have any questions about assignments. As these are adults and I only have 8 I do my best to encourage each and everyone of them when I see any frustration when working on assignments. Emotions play a huge role on self-esteem and can either impede or motivate learning, it's how the teacher handles the students emotions that can make a difference. Recognizing that all students are different, have different emotions levels. Some students require rules so make sure you go over the rules and some just require compassion so I make sure to lend a listening ear when needed. Social factor: the best way to promote a social factor in classroom management is to promote positive peer relationships, assign group work but you decide on the groups so that we encourage people to work with others.
