Classroom Management - Terry Gereta

I had a good student who was awarded a coveted co-op work term all expenses paid by RRC. Before getting awarded the position he was a good student in every way. Not the best theory marks but his practical marks were close to the top of the class. I lobbied for this student, and he was awarded the position. Almost immediately after being awarded the position his theory and professional work dropped greatly. Being a leader in the class other classmates were taking his lead.
I approached my chair and explained the situation to him and how he was effecting the rest of the class. He asked me what I would like to happen. I wanted him to be suspended from cooking competitions until the last assignment is handed in and he raise his professional manor to where it was before.
The chair then took it one step further. He withdrew him from all cooking competitions, instructed him to re submit the assignment ASAP and regain his professionalism. If these were not met France is OFF the table.
The student met all of the requirements as well as a heartfelt apology. The rest of the class responded by raising their own professionalism back to the expected standard.

Inquiry

Heather & Kim- I enjoyed how you used social media. It is not a resource the crossed my mind.

Emile- I also like one on one with experts. More than one is excellent.

Adam-You clearly explained inquiry based learning in setting up your presentation on BIM. It was excellent that you created your own building site.

Michelle H- The choice of potted plants is something we can all relate to. I never would have thought of utilizing Siri.I often talk to myself. This would it seem not as strange.

Leila - It is amazing how much analyzing we need to do for the tasks we take for granted. Nice job.

Michelle - I totally agree with your method. I usually familiar myself with the material but don't really learn until i do it.

Albert & Frank - A subject close to my heart. Once again going to an expert willing to assist you, for my money is the way to go.

Natalia - I find not only am I side tracked by going off on tangents when I am researching on the internet but often i'm inspired to experiment.

Bruce - I admire the patients you must have to soldier on, often i am effected negatively by my frustration.

Mike M - I love the history of hand tools be it cooking or carpentry. Often the lessons or real understanding of a process comes when you take the modern technology out of the equation.

Al - It is great to see someone appreciate the difficulty and still share the excitement in something close to your heart. Trial and error is the best way I learned how to cook. Nice job. I think it was the oven temperature.

Mike F- I am enjoying the images with your delivery.Nice presentation.

Jeff - Old School approach. I can see you like to teach the way you like to learn.

Learning Outcomes

Kim - You got me at pre lab Quiz. That is a great Idea. That is the only way it would work for me. There would have to be a weight on the outcome of the quizzes.

Adam - It is amazing all of your students will show at -25C

Michelle H - Simulations will fit into my teaching. Assisting the student is great way to see where they are at.

Bruce - The video about inventions will set your students at ease, because there is, most likely not having seen the film myself a great variety of inventions sparking interest in all of your learners.

Blair - I too am going to explore the flipped classroom.

Michelle L - K-W L is one approach I will explore further.

Natalia - Nice Learning Outcomes.

Emile - I agree blogging is a great way to explore a subject and become familiar with your peers.

Mike F - Excellent presentation.

Frank - Clear, Concise, and interesting. Nicely done.

Mike - Nice Friendly presentation. Outcomes a little long.

Albert - Nicely done Albert. You got font.
.
Leila - A discussion board is something I have not touched on with my students yet. Some of my classes have 20 or more students, limiting sharing . This will give them the opportunity to have a conversation the might not have otherwise.

Allan - I Really like the Telnet Screencast. Excellent idea.

Jeff - Once again I am excited to use the flipped classroom with the students. I will need to put a weight on it. All my work is up front.
