Tracey Goodwin - Classroom management

Troubleshooting ideas to stop problems before they start
Resisting the course or those who do not need the course - sell the course; give them the benefits of their course for use in the real world
Knowing the material - recognize the need for improvement; always room for improvement; build on the skills you already have; tie it into the real world
Claim your classroom space - walk around the room; let the students know you are around and observing
Engaging disruptive students - Call on your students when they are not paying attention;
Consequences - establish the rules and the consequences; and implement them

Classroom Management
"I have a student who likes to challenge me on a lot of different topics and issues. How do i fix this problem"
- Answer the questions that they ask until they are satisfied
- Refer them to the textbooks for the answers to questions about theory work

  • abusive student attitudes and behaviors
    • talk about other people's perspective
    • be direct when approaching the behavior of the offending student
    • review the rules and regulations on a regular basis
    • speak to the class as a whole then speak to the person as a individual
  • achieving diversity and cooperation
    • assign seats
    • assign partners for each other
    • let students pick their own groups so they are comfortable for every other project
  • managing interruptions
    • ignore the negative attention and reward the positive behavior
    • allow the conversation to go off topic for a little bit
    • move around the room so the attention is focused all over
    • call students out who are not listening or being disruptive
  • social and emotional factors
    • remind the students that they all come from different backgrounds and life situations so one person's problems are not worse or better than your problem
    • teaching empathy to the students
  • gender and race issues
    - To what extent do you believe that the gender of the teacher or the student influences the selection of classroom rules? Provide an example.
    • we have a tendancey to be a little more empathetic to female students and allow them to get away with certain behaviors that they would not normally allow.
    • we allow them to leave the room, and go on their phones to solve the crisis

Inquiry Project

Assignment 7

Mahi - Learning how to sew a top
I wish the video was a little clearer and more steady however the presentation was very good and informative. I enjoyed the visual presentation and the color of the slides which was eye catching but not distracting.

Wendy - Chocolate Souffles
I really enjoyed the tips and tricks of how to make the souffles and the what not to do when making a souffle. I loved the analysis of the recipes. I would have liked to see more interesting slides with some more visual excitement.

Amanda - Amanda makes biscuits
I really enjoyed the video but would have like some narration to go with the pictures as well.

Jerrylynn - A journey in basic photography
Love the topic because i am very interested in it. I liked the lessons in education slide and how it relates to our teaching the students. I was a little lost with all of the technical lingo so i kept forgetting what the initials meant.

Melinda and Kelly - Paired perogy project
Being of Ukraine descent this is also a very interesting topic for me. The power point was very thorough and there was a lot of information that was given. I was distracted by all of the movement during the presentation. I really enjoyed the humor that was given during the presentation

Sajjad - MS Access Learning

I found the presentation to be very informative and thorough but there was too much information and i found myself getting lost

Cara - Bathroom Reno's
I really enjoyed the slide show and i wish the music would have played with it to get the full effect. I wish she had given more information on the process of making the presentation.
-

Husam - My journey with Samsung S4
I really liked the feature of the dual camera. I found that there was a lot of skipping over information that would have been interesting to hear.

Darcy - How to Make a website
I liked the fact that she included the complications as part of the learning process.I liked the fact that she did comparisons of each site

Jenna S - Buttoned Baby Booties
I would have liked to have had more information on the prezi about the process of how things were done. I liked the fact that she went back to the project when she thought she couldn't do it.

Jenna B - Learning how to do my income taxes
Fantastic topic!!! I found there to be quite a bit of information to absorb just watching the presentation so i can only imagine how much work it was to actually do it.

Cynthia - My wine making journey
I really like your inspirations!!! I enjoyed the website reference and how she explained it. I wished she had pinned the microphone to her shirt so there was not so much background noises

Vanessa - How to play the guitar
I really liked the fact that she documented the whole learning process and went back and forth between mediums however I think the jumping around really hampered the learning process.

Leonard - Arduino
Wow!! what an interesting subject. The presentation was very informative and full of a lot of information. It was a way over my head so i found myself to be lost

Jerry-Lynn - Learning Centered Approaches
Mind mapping, Journal, Webquest. Great point about using the white board and students not listening and only writing. I liked that only participants can view the wiki. Very informative and thorough presentation.
