Class Room Management Discussion
Situation: I had a student that fell asleep in my class during a power point presentation.
Solution: Abruptly woke him up and asked him to do 10 jumping jacks with me, he asked are you serious and I said of course!
He did them with me and he was more than awake after that. I find that handling some situations with a little humour and also the natural physical way to get the adrenaline going.

Awesome presentation, sorry about your basement. Considering having to deal with those types of conditions you really accomplished a great deal of progress in learning about movie making. Your son is really talented you must be proud of him.
Why do you use the color green for a back screen? Thanks for the answer.
Amanda
I think it is great that your grandmother inspired you to want to learn how to knit. I remember bugging my grandma to show me how to knit. It's really a honor for your grandma that you finally learned how to do it, way to go!
What is the first thing you would like to make once you get better?
Dan
Nice to hear that you went to a good old fashion book store for information on Meditation. I didn't realize there were so many health benifits from meditating as well as it being a negative effect for some. Very interesting!!
What inspired you to want to meditate?
Laurie
I liked how you used a combination of words, clip art, and pictures of yourself. Also your humour in your presenting was great!! Proud of you that you never gave up. Wow and you did a animoto, your amazing.
How long did it take you to learn how to do the animoto? Took you a day holy crap!!
Doris
I'm glad you chose the violin to learn because it makes you happy and it is a want rather than a need. It is great that you are putting in such a effort to learn how to play. I didn't realize there were so many types of violins. You really did a tremendous amount of research for your presentation. Way to go.
Are you going to continue taking lessons? Mitch
It sounds like you put a lot of practice time in to learn how to play a song. Mitch you have a very pleasant way of presenting.
Are you going to join a rock band?

I didn't realize what a talented painter you are. Wow nice paintings, your work is beautiful. I think it is great that you are expanding your talent from traditional drawing to vector graphics.
Jen
I agree that the best place for advice on how to learn how to bake something is to go to the expert baker guy! I actually would like to buy the Soprano's Cook Book. I love Italian food! I liked how you learned from your mistakes.
What would you like to learn how to bake next and will you seek hands on help from the baker?
Jason, Andrea, Maggie F.
It is nice to see you chose to work as a group and all have something unique to learn. It looks like your having so much fun learning how to prepare your food. I like how you had videos. Jason your an excellent and patient teacher!
Andrea will continue to make muscles?
Kenny
Very interesting topic Ken! I have learned so much from your presentation. Ah I wanted to see the video.
Rick
I like how you explained your first ideas with pictures and sounds and also your humor, very funny. I like how you are so passionate when you are presenting your topic. It's great to see how excited you are about your learning journey. Oh you are quite witty young fella with the meditation and knitting pics, green screen, guitar etc. LOL LOL. Wow great presentation and ending!!
Tony
Very exciting topic, I admire you for tackling how to build a log cabin. I can tell by your presentation that you are very excited to build this. You are a very clear speaker. I think stripping the bark will be a lot of work! I liked how you used bits of information from each site that you thought would be useful to what you wanted to do. Tom
You can see in your learning journey that you put alot of time and effort in. Great presentation. Love the video and the effects you incorporated. You are quite talented at movie making. Hoping to see your name on the big movie screen!
Allan
Short and sweet presentation. I think it is a very complex thing to learn how to be a sound technician and a course would be a great idea.
Danh
I think that it is such a nice thing for you to do for your nephew. I know that paint-balling is such a popular thing to do now a days and I had no idea that you could modify a paintball gun. My son can not wait until he is old enough to go paint balling. I feel the same way as your sister and don't want him playing with any guns.
Randy
I would like to check out how blackboard works. I think it's great how you are using the adope rather than lecturing and incorporating technology into your classroom. I find the use of scaffolding really effective in training on equipment. Hands on learning seems to be the most effective. Excellent use of many student centered learning approaches. Well done Randy, It is obvious that you have learned a great deal in the AEC program!!
Dahn
I think that you incorporating some time on the computer to research is a great idea. The idea of having the work stations and letting the students work together to figure things out without you telling them is great. It is a simular idea to the hole in the wall video we watched. Could of been more clear on the outcomes of each approach but great job Dahn.
Dan
The assignment with the diagram is an excellent way of getting your students to learn the code book. It's definately more exciting to learn the code book that way rather than lecturing or memorizing code book. I think this would be a great idea to incorporate into our class 3 program. Web quest is an awesome tool. We use alot of hands on training in our workplace and is so important to prepare them for the real world.
Laurie
I notice that you gave your students choice which is motivating. Walk a mile in my shoes is a great way to let the students develope empathy and also deeper understanding. Role play is so much fun and is great how you are using it and also how you are adding a game type approach as well.
Simulattion is important approach to use to prepare them for real life situations in being a health care aid. Laurie your such a great teacher!
Mitch
Great idea to use a popplet to create more student interaction. Excellent use of a Web Quest Mitch. Our classrooms are basically all teacher centered approaches and the addition of student centered approaches is well needed!!
Jennifer
It's refreshing to see you used a prezi for your presentation. By you flipping the classroom you were able to have more time on other things in the classroom. Also makes the students responsible for their learning. Simulation is a great student centered approach for your field of learning proper color techniques. Your students are learning from their own evaluations of how the results turned out. I would like to try a inquiry type learning approach in our workplace. Great job Jen!
Kenny
It is great that you had the operators manual for them in case they did not have access to a computer. Excellent idea to use the video especially with not being able to see the control functions at night time. I too use co-operative learning in loader training and is very effective tool in training on equipment.
Allan
Your strudent centered approaches were all great. Your presentation could of been layed out in a clearer form with larger font for us to be able to read. Some great ideas on teaching methods!
Andrea
Very clear statements on your outcomes. Case studies are a great idea to involve the students to be motivated to learn and it's awesome to hear that they look forward to presenting in class. Loved the discovery learning you did to create motivation! You can tell that you are a very passionate teacher and have great ideas to motivate and excite your students. I think you should use a popplet and challenge your technology skills.
Jeff
Great ideas to involve student interaction and change it up from the regular lecture. I like how you give your students a wide variety of choices to choose from. The inquire based project will subject your students to what it is like in the real working world. Great job sorry I was late!
Maggie F.
I think flipping your classroom worked out well for the students and also to free up time for your classroom to go over other things. Your directions were very clear and you guided them to a clear site with step by step instructions. I think the visual of the popplet will help your students to understand the concepts.
Doris
I really like the colors and background you used on your presentation. It was refreshing. Roll play in an excellent idea to educate your students on how to handle conflict situations with the children. I like how you had lots of variety in the hands on activities.
Amanda
With all of the violence that bus drivers have to face I think it is a great idea to incorporate how to defend yourself in your training. We just made a video on how to do a air brake test!!
Jason
Great web quest with many different student centered learning approaches. Any college would be lucky to have you as an instructor!! Your such a natural at teaching. Your making me hungry and I want to be in your class to try the different menus.
Rick
Very clear instructions on flipping the classroom. It is a great benefit for your students to work at their own pace and also for you to free up your classroom time for hands on instruction. Your a very clear speaker and present your material very professionaly. Great job Rick!!
Tony
Great combination of student learning approaches and I think it will be a great way to improve your students learning. It is nice to see how you want to make improvements to your classroom. Hope you go through and try all of your ideas. Have you tried these approaches in your class yet? Very clear written outcome statements. Enjoyed your presentation!
Tom
Great ideas to incorporate student participation and improve learning. Your outcome statement could use some tweaking. Great job as always Tom!
