Situation: "Students goofing off in class." Students were supposed to be working on their assignment. A guy "stole" a cell phone from the girl beside him while she was looking the other way. He then passed it down the line, so it ended up three people down the row. Of course, all three guys were then snickering and trying to contain themselves, thinking they were halarious. When the girl realized her cell phone was missing, she started frantically looking for it.
Solution: I put an end to it - "Eason, give her phone back so everyone can get to work." Not a big deal, but it was a little disruptive.
Did getting involved with your son inspire him to learn how to use the green screen properly?
Sorry about your basement!
Amanda: Knitting
What was the best website you found? (I've always wanted to learn to knit, too!)
That's a good start, keep it up!
DanL: Meditation
Do your other family members practice meditation?
Laurie: Learn
How long does it take to learn to use Animoto?
You are an excellent presenter. Very clear and interesting.
Doris: Violin
Do you think you'll go on and purchase a violin?
I think it's great that you even went for your first lesson.
Mitch: Guitar
Which songs are you planning to learn?
You could consider learning to read music first, it makes reading tab easier.
Randy: Computer Drawing
Do students learn to use software for drawing in your classes? If someone is not very good at drawing freehand, do you think they could draw more succesfully using software?
That's great that you are learning to use this new tool, students will be impressed.
Jennifer: Canneloni
What other fancy desserts do you know how to make?
If you husband doesn't want vegan cupcakes, then more for you!
MaggieL: Refinishing cupboards
How much did the reno cost?
Looks great and you got so much finished already!
Ken: Artificial Insemination
You included a lot of information about the history, advantages, etc. How did you enjoy learning about it?
Rick: Social Media
How are you changing each slide, do you have a remote?
Great presenter and entertaining powerpoint!
Tony: Making a log cabin
Where are you going to build your log cabin?
Some interesting information, for example, the type of groove you make & the chances of the wood rotting, etc.
Tom: Making a video
It looks like it was fun to learn about making a video and the different effects you can do with the screen. Some of the effects made it difficult to see the footage, however. That's something I would like to learn, too!
Alan: Audio-visual
Good topic to choose for your assignment, sound like lots of work, but awesome that you're helping out like that!
Danh: Modifying a Paintball Gun
Do you have any concerns about the gun malfunctioning after being modified? (Sounds risky to me!)

Interesting idea, but what are the children actually learning? Having access to computers is a wonderful idea, but what issues will it solve? Improving education for everyone has to start somewhere and this is a start but I have to wonder what the potential is without direction given to the children using the computers.
It was also interesting that he was able to teach Italian students without speaking Italian. However, we often don’t give enough credit to children for their abilities, especially here in Canada. I was a nanny in France and the six year old girl I looked after could read, write and even send emails!
Other readings:
The dreaded group work - I think any steps we can take to help groups work together are great. One note regarding having students allocate marks among themselves - I recall a project where the grades were awarded this way and it resulted in the “good” students getting A’s and the “bad” students getting D’s. The mark allocation to the “bad” students didn’t seem fair, but there just wasn’t enough marks to go around to give everyone the marks they deserved.
Student-centered approaches:
Randy
I think journals or blogs in your classes would be a good idea. I would guess that many of your students are introverts, so using blogs may make it easier for students to get to know each other and share ideas.
Danh
Problem solving skills will be so important when your students are working, I think your assignment where they research their answers and then demonstrate to the class would help them with these skills as well as learn the material.
Dan
I couldn't find this presentation on his wiki page.
Laurie
I sent a request to view Laurie's presentation.
Mitch
I missed class this evening, so maybe you explained in your presentation, but I wasn't sure how the webquest would work. Would students research each of the topics online? It looked like the webquest could instead be used as a checklist for students to make sure that they are clear about topic.
Jennifer
I love that you used prezi! Do you use prezi in your classes and how difficult is it to use? It's been on my to do list for a while now! Great idea for students to practice hilights on volunteers and that it's wash out colour!!!
Ken
I couldn't find this presentation on the wiki.

Reading your learner centered approaches in a Word doc was a nice change from viewing PPT presentations. I would guess that you already use scaffolding often due to the material you are teaching, seems like it would be most effective.
Andrea
I like your idea of having students do a project based on their current work in order to learn about intrinsic motivation - what better way to learn about intrinsic motivation than to be intrinsically motivated!
Jeff
I think those are good ideas. Students would have more interest in their research if they choose the topic (ie social issue that matters to them).
Doris
Role playing and blogs seem very fitting for ECE.
MaggieL
We sometimes play "accounting jeopardy" in class, it's pretty fun (at least I think so!!!) It works well for review of accounting concepts. Role play is a great idea for emergency situations - if you've gone through the motions when learning what to do, you're more likely to remember what to do in an actual emergency.
Amanda
I think role-playing difficult customers is a great idea, going through the motions of to do if you were being attacked will help students remember what to do if they ever face that type of situation. (Hopefully won't happen, but unfortunately, could).
Jason
Very impressive student centered assignment. I like that student have to choose countries from different continents. There are so many international students in our programs and I think they would really embrace this type of project.
Rick
I think flipping the classroom for the video is great, as a student, I would much rather watch a video on my time that to sit through it during class. It frees up class time to work on other things. Do you currently use scaffolding? Seems like a good technique for the topics that you teach.
Tony
For your webquest, you could have a list of electronic components and students could each choose which components they want to research, giving them some choice.
Tom
I like your idea of using popplet to get feedback about the course! I currently use a questionnaire to get feedback, but having students collaborate to give feedback is a great idea.
