Thursday Morning
Classroom management

One of the issues that I had in my classroom was making sure that students do not do anything distractive in the classroom.

Over the years I have noticed that if I clearly set my rules in the first class, there will not be any significant issues later on.

This is what I tell my students at the beginning of each course; that they are here to learn this specific course and I make sure that they know why they should learn this.

Then I remind them that they are spending their time and money to succeed and it will not be a good idea to waste their resources.

Then I tell them that they do not have to attend my lectures; but if they do attend they should not be distractive to me and other students and I also mention that I will ask them to leave the class if they violate the rules and then they would need the Chair's permission to get back to the class.

Based on my experience this works really well.

Friday presentations (Assignment 7)

Kim
I liked your plan to assign reading a week before to make sure they have enough time to read

Adam
I liked the idea of using learn and post all materials there to skip buying the text book but I strongly suggest you put the text book as a refrence to make sure no student will complain that they didn't have enough material to study

MicheleH
I liked that all student centered approaches that you selected are hands on and practical.

Bruce
I liked the case study approach that you selected. This approach really helps Eng. students to become more familiar with real Eng. cases.

About the online quizzes I just want to suggest that you make sure that you make the marked quizzes(Including the questions and answers) available to them.

Terry
I liked your idea of having a blog and asking students to post and comment there I just suggest that you attach marks to it to make sure that they all participate.

Blair
It is a nice idea to put a recorded lecture available for students and then ask them to do something more based on that. (Flipping classroom)

MichelleL
I liked the graphic organizer idea. From what you explained I can see that this might work really good with your program.

Natalia
The idea of doing a lab before lecture is interesting and works for some areas but I just suggest that make sure that students don't get confused about what they are doing in the lab.

Emile
I liked the idea of using blog for students to communicate with former students. This way they can learn from former student's experiences. The only suggestion is you make sure that you assign marks for their participation in blog to make sure they all participate.

MikeF
I liked the student centered approaches that you selected. Good luck with them

Frank
I liked that you have a clear idea about how you are going to assign marks to each task to evaluate students

Mike M
I liked the simulation approach that you had. This will open a new door for students to explore in a safe environment.

Albert
I agree with you that using student centered learning, curriculum will be more dynamics and both students and instructors can benefit from this.

Leila

Here is my presentation:

Alan
I agree that flipped classroom approach works really well for some areas.

Jeff
I like the discovery approach that you use for your students. I think the only disadvantages of this approach is the amount of risk involved along the way.
