Assignment #5 - LucidChart

Assignment #6 - Classroom Management

Achieving diversity and cooperation
Example: When selecting groups, you can adjust the group composition so that balance is achieved. Perhaps you don’t want to have all men or women in a group, or group members all from a common background.

Situation: Practical labs is always a part of the courses I teach. Students divide themselves into groups of two. If I have an odd number of students, I usually get a student that is unable to find a partner.

Solution: Usually, I don't interfere in naming partners. I leave it up to the students to choose their own partner. However, I keep my eyes open. When I see a shy international student (or any student) who is unable to find a partner, I find him a partner. I also try to combine good students with the ones that need more help.

My first quiz (in semester 1 courses) is a take home quiz. I usually make it a little challenging. I encourage students to help each other in the solution. I'm trying to make students help each other and bond at an early stage in their college life.

I had international students, new immigrants students, quiet aboriginal students, autistic (in a sense) students and old students where I needed to offer advice and extra help to keep them going in the program.
