Classroom Management

Situation: A student wanted a higher mark for his assignment after finding out another student had received and A, and he only received a C+. He felt his work was better. When I met with him to review his concerns, he demanded I change his mark.

Solution: When I recognized he was not going to discuss the situation in a rational manner, I told the student we would include the coordinator in our review. With the coordinator in the room the student continued to insist his work was better, even after we went through his evaluation with him. We told him that if he was not satisfied with our explanation of his evaluation, there was a process where he could officially appeal his mark through college relations.

Inquiry Project Critiques

Heather and Kim

The idea of buying a cheese making kit is interesting, and odd. Why would you want to make your own cheese? It can't be very good.
We all know how to get information from books and the internet, so I feel that doesn't need to be in the presentation. Focusing on the farm was better.

Emile

Interesting topic. This would be a difficult.
It was hard for me to follow. I think the delivery, speech, and over all presentation was hard to understand from the back of the room.

Adam

Very interesting, but complex subject. Good points, and he engaged the students.
I feel Adam didn't talk so much about how he learned, but more about what he learned. However, day 3 was more about the learning.

Terry and Blair

Excellent use of images. They explained the project very well. This was a true experimentation. The mad scientists of booze.
A graphic designer would help make your presentation look better.

Michelle L

Some good humour to start. Lots of good photographs in the presentation. Good pace and energy.
Less time on, "what did I learned."

Leila

Good description of the process, and how she learned how to work a sewing machine.
Maybe spent too much time on buying the fabric since the rest of the process took more time to explain.

Michelle H

Some step by step presentation.
Don't start each step with "the next thing I had to learn…"

Natalia

Good energy in the presentation.
A bit hard to follow exactly what the learning process was.

Bruce

Good casual approach to the presentation. Nice pace, and speech.
Don't use all Caps for your type in the presentation.

Mike M

Good presentation, and process.
Bullets should be closer to the type.

Alan

Excellent presentation and funny. It's good to be able to laugh at yourself. Good visuals, good delivery.
Well done.

Mike F

I must of missed the important part of the presentation.
The typeface used is not a good for presentations because it is monospaced.

Jeff

Good, funny and engaging presentation, even though I'm not sure exactly what you were trying to learn.

It's a new day.

Kim

Good presentation.

Adam

Way to go Adam.

Michelle H

A few images would be nice, otherwise well presented.

Bruce

Good information about your courses.

Terry

You the man, except when it comes to writing learning outcomes.

Blair

You the man too (if there can be 2).

Michelle M

Very well organized.

Natalia

Cool presentation. Be careful when you put colour type on a colour background.

Emile

Good job. Could speak up a bit.

Mike F

Nice presentation.

Mike M
