Classroom Management::

___

One particular situation that I had in the classroom was...
I have one particular student who likes to comment on what seems like everything. Now normally I can handle this pretty well. However this particular student is very persistent and really wants to be involved. The problem with the comments from this students is the fact they have a tough time getting to the point. It is very frustrating for me and all the students as this takes up quite a bit of the class time. I have spoken to this student about how they need to understand that they are not the only student in the classroom with questions. I have asked the students to limit their comments and questions so others will have an opportunity as well. To this day this has not quite sunk in yet. I try to avoid eye contact and simply just ignore, however this strategy doesn't seem to work. Next I'm planning on sitting down with the student just to talk about how to ask questions or make comments in a quicker way. I also want to discuss further how their imput is valued however I will limit their commnets or questions to two or max three per class. I will also let the student know that this is now a warning and may have to be taken up with the Chair if this continues.

Inquiry Project Objectives:

___

Heather and Kim:
Love the topic - works well with beer which is one of my subjects of teaching. Great layout on your PowerPoint. Your presentation was logical and easy to listen too. I liked how you flipped back and fourth between each other with ease. The only thing that could maybe use a little improvement.
Maybe a quick little video on the process. You covered a lot of ground to learn your topic in such a short period of time. Well Done!

Emile:
Very interesting way to learn. The visuals you had were good. Maybe just a little caption with your slides - a few were missing - would like to see more pictures of you learning and the process.

Adam
Good start with an outline of what your doing and a question to the audience. Engaging the audience is very important at the start. A little less words and more on the process in your PowerPoint. Tell us more on what you learned. This might be a little bit of a challenge for me to learn this topic through these series of steps.

Michelle L.
Very interesting! Engaged audience well by moving away from the podium. The progression of learning was well presented with both words and visual. Learning was well documented here, I was definitely engaged by the methods used here. I'm honestly having trouble finding something that could use improvement. You definitely followed the right steps for learning to be positive for you.

Leila
Well done. The process of learning was clear. You really got involved with this process no matter how frustrated you were. Great images. captions were short, however indicate exactly what was happening in the image.Might have to slow down just a little. Take a breath. Otherwise a great engaging presenter.

Michelle
It is interesting to see how we all learn differently. The tell me, show me and do method is a good way of putting it. This was a good presentation to compare with others on how we all learn. Great work on this!

Frank and Albert
I like the thought process of how you put this together based on your personality types. Good consideration when your trying to learn something new with someone else. You also made you learning so much fun and involved more people to experiment a long with you. Excellent presentation overall!

Natalia
Good thoughts here. It is tough to figure out where to start sometime. Yes sometimes when we want to learn something we dive a littlie to hard into our research and try to take on to much information. That is a challenge itself. Here is an example of another type of learning style.

Bruce
Sometimes learning can really become complicated and of course frustrating. However I see this method of learning as a real challenge. I can see why you wanted to give up a few times. I guess we have to consider this in the classroom. Ensure the challenge does not go to far. Well Done?

Mike M
The toughest thing about learning sometimes is where to start. The internet is a great place, however that only tells us where to go sometimes and not if we can find the information of what we want there. However when we cant get answers somewhere else we seem to always go back to the internet. Hands on applied learning is the best! Nice work on the presentation?

Alan
Interesting presentation on a culinary experience. You covered so many different types of culinary techniques, A lot to learn in one day. That can be pretty overwhelming for many learners. Good to see you stuck with it. Excellent Presentation!

Mike F
Interesting point made right at the beginning of your presentation whether you had the ability to do the task or not. I think perseverance is important in learning as long as the interest still remains. Also the uncertainty of what the outcome might be can be scary as well.

Jeff
Excellent research methods without using the internet. A real frustrating adventure by the looks of it. I enjoyed your adventure of trying to find some expert assistance even though It probably wasn't that fun for you. Good to see you don't plan on giving up on being keen about this interest. Unfortunately there are some people that make it hard for us to learn and do not offer assistance.

My Learner Centered Presentation

Learner Centered Presentations

Kim
Excellent detailed presentation Kim. I think with such intensive reading they are better off out of the classroom in a space where its best for each student to read and study. Once back in the classroom the quiz for competency is a great idea.

Adam -
Text books can be a problem especially when they are expensive. You need the right types of student learning to engage them in using the text book if you want it to be successful. Also. Are they really buying the textbook anyway? Good Job!

Michelle H.
I use a little role playing in my courses. Especially with sales. I really enjoy this method as students usually have a little fun with it once they really get going. I just find you need to watch students closely so they get real value out of these rather than turning it into an opportunity to just fool around. Nice work on your presentation!

Bruce
Great presentation Bruce. I like the Flipped classroom idea. Using the online quizzes are good to. I just find students need some encouragement to do them and of course see the value in doing these.

Terry
Scaffolding and Blog combination sounds like a great idea. I think its a great idea for students to comment on their own learning.
Great job Terry!

Michelle
Good Job with your presentation! - Popplet - I will have to look at that one for my graphic organizer. Its seems every presentation that I watch there seems to be another resource for doing something. Thank you for this one. Good choices in Learner centered tools. Lets hope these will work in the classroom.

Natalia
First thing - I'm still a little nervous about using Prezi - Some day I will have to try it.
Case studies definitely have their place in the classroom. I find they need close monitoring by the instructor to ensure all students stay involved in the problem solving process. Then they can be successful.

Emile
Your the first to mention the Animoto option especially when we have used it so much in this course. It is good before, however I think they should do there own as a comparison and to further help with their learning. Hopefully I can find a place in my classroom for this. Good job with your presentation!

Mike F
Your web quest idea is perfect for this discipline. Especially with so much lecture up front. I think this can really engage the students if its presented to the correctly.

Frank
The Flipped classroom is a good idea for this concept. Your first objective is a little above my head and seems to cover a lot of process, so I think it would definitely benefit the students. .I like your unique twist on doing a case study by using the Moodport- (I think I got this right?) to work through the process.

Mike M
Excellent concepts. I was mostly interested in your scare tactics. Sometimes we need to tell the students the consequences if they don't follow directions precisely. It can have severe consequences. Excellent Presentation!

Albert
I have been very interested in the different uses of role play. I really want to make improvements on how I use them in my classroom. I like your approach and how you evaluate yours, especially including attitude as part of the evaluation criteria.

Leila
I really think that's what students want. A simulated environment. Gets them really excited about the career that they have chosen. I'm sure this is an effective way to keep students engaged. The closer you bring them to their desired field of work the better. Very rewarding. Great Presentation!

Alan
Cooperative learning? I was never exactly sure how to apply this. Thank you for your ideas. I think your method creates a real good support network for students and hopefully bring students closer together. Nice Presentation!

Jeff
Another great approach to the flipped classroom. Once back in the classroom team building is a great way to bring this method all together. That Is kind of how I was planning on utilizing this approach as well. I think when students have a chance to learn the concepts on their own pace first, they might come back to the classroom with more confidence. Good work Jeff!
