Classroom Management

Student: A more advanced student was disruptive by wanting to push beyond the lesson being delivered. He would push to discuss more advanced problems or situations in our software course.

Solution: I would acknowledge his questions and state the importance of them, but would remind him that it was a more introductory class. I would also mention that after the lecture/demonstration, I would come speak to him. I would then listen to his concerns and ideas, and point him in the direction of a solution. Usually an online article or tutorial that could be explored in addition to the class work. The acknowledgment of his advanced level seemed to appease his issues. I also welcomed at times his comments as good suggestions for more learning.

Inquiry Project Critiques

Heather and Kim

Comment: Good topic and information. Never thought I could make my own cheese here in Winnipeg. Would be fun to explore!

Critique: Delivery feels a bit slow. At times vocal levels drift off. Images of people, scenes, animals more interesting than the earlier web captures and forms.

Emile

Comment: The world of mushrooms? Never really gave them much thought, though I new some were grown in Manitoba.

Critique: Speaking too quietly. Vocal levels fluctuate. Could speak with more tonal variation- would increase impression of passion on topic. Could use more written information on the slides.

Adam

Comment: Good content. Very good exploration. Seems like good learning occurred!
Very good presentation and visuals. I was interested in the topic. Good recap.

Critique: Took a bit of time to lead into the Inquiry topic. First few slides lost me. Needed engagement and understanding a bit quicker.

Terry and Blair

Comment: Grabbed my attention from the get go! Very cool topic! Looks like there was a lot of effort, trail and error.

Critique: Consider adding a few more descriptors to your images. Was hard to tell what was going on in some of the images. Otherwise good work!

Michelle L.

Comment: Great energy and projection. Good visuals and clean presentation. Helpful introductory info. Great additional stories.

Critique: Honestly, not much to critique here. Good job.

Leila

Comment: A very useful skill to have! Seems like it would be challenging learning. Good for you to take on this skill! Good energy in your presentation.

Critique: Maybe a bit too much verbal explanation. Could add more type to your presentation.

Michelle M.

Comment: Wow! Would seem challenging to get out and do a this kind of learning in a short period of time.

Critique: Presentation formatting was a bit basic, but the images were good. With more time I'm sure you the presentation would look more developed.

Natalia

Comment: Good topic! Good explanation of presentation purpose. Good realization of exploration/process.

Critique: Mainly good. You walked back and forth from the computer quite a bit. Not really a big deal, just a bit distracting.

Bruce

Comment: Good smooth delivery of information. Good use of imagery and humor. Great little video clip at the end.

Critique: Some technical information not needed for this presentation.

Mike M.

Comment: Good introduction/back story. Good useful topic.

Critique: Some vocal fluctuation. Hard to hear at times. Didn't actually experience/practice the learning.

Alan

Comment: Great intro! Very good way to engage students. I'm getting hungry!

Critique: Overall good delivery. Felt like there was a few too many steps shown at one point. May just be that it's getting late in the day. ; )

Mike F.

Comment: An appropriate presentation look for this topic. Good engagement. Fun delivery

Critique: Didn't actually experience/practice the learning... yet.

Jeff

Comment: A very lofty learning goal. Learning to operate a crane! An entertaining story.

Critique: Was feeling like I needed more of a focused presentation. Good conclusion though.

Good content and delivery. well spoken. Slides could be cleaned up a bit, but information is there.

Adam
As always, a fun and clever engagement. Effective choices/examples of learner-centered approach.

Michelle H
Choices/examples of learner-centered approach seem to be appropriate. A little difficult to follow the visual presentation due volume of content on each slide.

Bruce
Interesting to hear that some programs/courses would find It more challenging to introduce learner-centered approaches. Good delivery, though a little difficult to hear at times.

Terry
Some issues with formal format of the outcomes. Some pretty cool approaches considered. I can seem them being quite effective and students will appreciate them.

Good applications of your selected learner-centered approaches.

Alan
I like the option of capturing my software demonstrations. Would be good as a back-up for student review. Cool.

Jeff

Good uses of various LC approaches for your courses. The outcomes are a bit unclear in how they're written.
